I am a social researcher interested in landscape, the body and the geography of emotions. My doctoral research involved volunteering as a sighted guide with specialist visually-impaired walking groups. This research raised the profile of ‘disabled’ users of the British countryside network, contributed to Natural England’s ‘diversity review’ and theoretical debates on the body, sight and knowledge in Human Geography. I currently Lecture in Social and Cultural Geography at Royal Holloway, University of London. Click here for my university pages
My research continues to focus on understandings of the body and the relationships between people and landscapes. I do this by combining empirical (ethnographic) research with critical social theory, phenomenology and research from the biomedical sciences.
This website is designed to share some further information about my research and teaching. It has a set of links to my publications and to connected work on the body, emotion, blindness and countryside access. I hope you find the site helpful. Please email me at hannah.macpherson(at)rhul.ac.uk if you have any further questions.
